Frances pictures 005Discoveries at St. Jude have completely changed how doctors treat children with cancer and other catastrophic illnesses. Since St. Jude was established, the survival rate for acute lymphoblastic leukemia, the most common type of childhood cancer, has increased from 4 percent in 1962 to 94 percent today. St. Jude has treated children from across the United States and from more than 70 countries. Doctors across the world consult with St. Jude on their toughest cases. Also, St. Jude has an International Outreach Program to improve the survival rates of children with catastrophic illnesses worldwide through the transfer of knowledge, technology and organizational skills.

All medically eligible patients who are accepted for treatment at St. Jude are treated without regard to the family's ability to pay. St. Jude is the only pediatric research center where families never pay for treatments that are not covered by insurance, and families without insurance are never asked to pay. In addition to providing medical services to eligible patients, St. Jude also assists families with transportation, lodging, and meals. Three separate specially-designed patient housing facilities-Grizzly House for short-term (up to two weeks), Ronald McDonald House for medium-term (two weeks to 3 months), and Target House for long-term (3 months or more)-provide housing for patients and up to three family members, with no cost to the patient. These policies, along with research expenses and other costs, cause the hospital to incur more than $1.5 million in operating costs each day. Around $180,000 is covered by patient insurance, the remaining $1.34M/day is funded by charitable contributions.

Franklin Tn Home Sales for February 2010

Franklin Home Sales are starting to heat up.

Via Larry Brewer (Keller Williams ):

Franklin Tn Home  Franklin TN Home Sales for February 2010 are as follows

  • 71 Franklin TN Homes were sold
  • The average price of homes sold was $382,631
  • The average size of homes sold was 2995 square ft
  • The average number of days on market for sold homes in Franklin was 98
  • 146 Franklin TN Homes are pending sale
  • 959 Homes are available for sale in Franklin

My analysis is this – The inventory of homes in Franklin is still sufficient to support a buyers market, and prices reflect that. However, new homes at affordable prices are becoming harder to find, and builders will not be replenishing sold homes at the rate they did in the past. Pre-owned homes will always be available, but I expect the prices to start increasing for the higher demand communities like Westhaven .

Golf at the Governors Club

The governors club is know thoughout the south for luxurious estate homes, and a great golf course.

Via Larry Brewer (Keller Williams ):

governors club golfGolf at the Governors Club - If you have the desire to join a private club in the Nashville area, and you like the idea of playing on a course designed by Arnold Palmer, the Governors Club might be the course for you. Located on the east side of Brentwood just a 10 minute drive from downtown Nashville.

If owning a luxury home on the golf course is part of the package, give me a call. I think every golfer should treat themselves to a home of the golf course, and the Governors club is a great place to live.

Nashville Home Values down 0.4 percent

The market in Nashville is slow, but the prices are as low as they are probably going to get.

Via Larry Brewer (Keller Williams ):

Nashville HomeNashville home values down 0.4 percent - According to Zillow, Nashville home prices have been very stable for the last 12 months. Most of the customers I speak with are very concerned by the media representation of real estate values constantly eroding. According to Zillow, it's not the case in Nashville.

Inspecting Real Estate in Nashville, TN ~ Garage Door Safety

One of the things inspectors are looking out for, Garage doors

Via Michael Thornton - Nashville, TN area Home Inspector (Complete Home Inspections, Inc.):

Inspecting real estate in Nashville, TN ~ Garage door safety...
Misplaced photo eyes for garage door     Garage doors are the largest moving object in your home. Child and pet safety are major areas of concern when purchasing or having your new home inspected. Municipalities and insurance companies now require photo eyes to be installed on all mechanically operated garage doors. As a general rule, these are to be placed between 4-6" above the garage floor.
Every now and then, the placement of these safety items is overlooked during the new construction process. While these are supposed to be checked by local building officials prior to a house being issued a CO (Certificate of Occupancy), these often get overlooked during the final inspection. Thankfully, the home inspection process catches these items to ensure as safe dwelling for you and your family.
